iPad Pro 10.9 inch A1709 Glass and Screen Replacement (digitizer and LCD removal and installation)

Tools

For the installation process, you will need: a heat gun or hairdryer, a suction cup,
several plastic picks, an X-Acto knife, a Phillips screwdriver bit, a pair of tweezers

Shut down the iPad

To begin, shut down the iPad by holding the power button at the top and confirming the
shutdown on screen.

Warm up the perimeter of the iPad

Use a heat gun or hairdryer to warm up the perimeter of the display assembly.

Open the iPad

Using a suction cup to hold the edge insert a plastic pick on the right side between the
body and the display assembly.

Continue using the heat gun to keep the adhesive warm. The screen must be warm to the
touch, but not burning.

Insert another plastic pick on the opposite side and separate the glue underneath. Warm up
the top part and attempt to separate the edge with another plastic pick. Use the heat gun as
needed to allow the adhesive to separate easily. Insert the plastic picks deeper to keep
the adhesive from re-gluing.

Warm up the bottom edge and use a plastic pick to separate the adhesive. Insert another
plastic pick to keep the display assembly separated from the main body.

Put the iPad on its side and use an X-Acto knife to separate the adhesive strips. Flip the
iPad around to the other edge and separate the remaining adhesive using the X-Acto knife.

Disconnect the cables

Keep the iPad propped up on its edge; the display assembly connectors must be undone
before the display assembly can be fully separated.

There are four connectors located under a metal shield, which is secured with two
Phillips screws. Use a Phillips screwdriver bit to remove the screws and open the metal
shield. Use a plastic pick to carefully open the four display assembly connectors.

Separate the display assembly and set the main body aside.

Remove the home button fingerprint sensor

The home button fingerprint sensor must be removed and transferred onto the new display
assembly. Using tweezers, remove the black securing sticky tape from the home button
connector. Using a plastic pick, open the connector counterlever from the left side and
disconnect the flex cable.

Using the same pick, gently unglue the metal bracket over the home button. Set the
bracket aside. Push on the home button from the front and use a pick to help separate the
home button membrane. Set the home button aside.

Transfer the home button on to the new display assembly
At this point, the new part can be prepared. Start with the home button: insert it,
making sure the membrane lands correctly in place. Replace the metal bracket over the home
button (you may need to apply additional adhesive underneath). Slide the home button cable
into the connector and lock the counterlever. Replace the black sticky tape securing the
connector.

connector.

Connect the new display assembly to the main body

Put the iPad on its edge and align the display assembly with the logic board connectors.
Click in the four assembly connectors; they make a distinct, tactile click when aligned
and plugged in properly. Replace the metal shield over the connectors and secure it with two
Phillips screws.

Test the new display assembly

At this point, the new display can be tested: press the power button and wait for the iPad
to start up. Hold the power button again to shut down and confirm the shutdown on screen.

Close the iPad

Align the bottom edge of the assembly with the iPad body and firmly pat the edges down.

Clean up the display with a superfine, soft microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the
screen, and we're done!
