Replacement of screen on iPhone 3G screen made by LaptopScreen.com

Background info

This is a guide to reinstalling the front assembly on the Apple iPhone 3G. The front assembly contains
the frame, the glass digitizer, and the LCD screen. We highly recommend replacing the entire front
assembly if any of these components need replacing. Tools you will need are a flat and a Phillips
screwdriver and a suction cup with a keychain ring attached. You may also use a flat metal tool to
pick open the bottom edge, but it is best to use a suction cup

Separate the front assembly

Using your Phillips screwdriver, remove two screws on each side of the docking connector.
Then place the suction cup right above the home button. Position your left hand thumb on the top edge
of the phone, right on the speaker hole. That is done in order to keep the top edge in place. Otherwise,
you may damage the logic board connectors by suddenly separating the front assembly.
Then pull on the ring with your right index finger while leveraging your thumb against the chrome frame.
You only need to pull until the bottom edge separates a bit. Then pick the front assembly open
with your fingers. Do not separate the front assembly completely as there are few cables which
need to be properly disconnected

Open the connectors and separate the front assembly

Using your flat screwdriver, open the first connector. Underneath there will be a locking tab connector
which needs to be opened with a flat screwdriver and a third connector on the right usually separates
on its own, but you may need to pick it open with a flat screwdriver as well. Once all three cables have
been disconnected, set the old front assembly aside

Connect the cables

In order to reconnect the new front assembly, we recommend separating the orange flex cable away
from the other two connectors, then aligning it with the locking tab connector. It goes in fairly
easy if you hold the front assembly and simply push the flax cable into the connector. Use your flat
screwdriver to close the locking tab. Then press the other two connectors in place. They make a
distinctive click when plugged in properly

Install the front assembly into the frame

Once all three cables are secured, insert the top edge of the front assembly into the groove on
the top edge. And while holding it with your thumb, close the bottom edge. Then replace the two
bottom screws. Remove the protective film from the front glass. And you're done
