Previously we have explained what the AU Optronics and LG Phillips model numbers mean. This time, we will explain the naming system behind CHIMEI Optronics LCD model numbers.

From Wikipedia:

“Chi Mei Corporation is part of a privately held holding company called the Chi Mei Group, which has numerous subsidiaries. The new Chimei Innolux Corporation is the world’s No. 2 and Taiwan’s No. 1 largest maker of TFT-LCD panels.”

The common structure for the LCD model numbers is that they start with a 1-4 character code, which corresponds with the manufacturer (LTN for Samsung, LP for LG Phillips), etc.)

There are two types of model numbers: the old and new style.
Note!: The information provided is subject to change at the discretion of the manufacturer at any time. Typically the convention changes every manufacturing cycle and the only common indicators that can be generalized as permanent are the Manufacturer Code (N = ChiMei) and the size of the LCD: 133 = 13.3″, 156 = 15.6″.

I would like to make a correction and if possible also verify this:

For old style model numbers, for smaller screens (i.e. 10.1 inch), the L in N101L06 is a 1024×600 resolution and not 1366×768. The 1366×768 resolution only applies to larger screens (i.e. 13.3 inch example).

What are the differences between EA1, EAA, EBA (for example N140HGE-EAA, N140HGE-EA1, N140HGE-EBA)? All of these works on a laptop with N140HGE-EAA?

When it comes down to exact model specifics, these are generally reproduction runs of the screens, however they may also indicate a performance revision. You can view full specifications of a screen from websites such as http://www.panelook.com/index.php

I have a ChiMei N156B6-L0A, but I noticed there are different revision numbers like C2 and C3. What is the difference between Revision C2 versus Revision C3? Is the C3 an upgrade over C2? Please let me know. Thank you.

It is generally best to aim to order from the same listing as your original, for these revisions the specs are not noticeably different and the compatibility is the same.

What is the significance of the last 2 digits after the connector letter?

My PC is originally fitted with N173HGE-L21, but it is easier to find N173HGE-L11 replacement. Is it compatible?

      Hello Mike,
These two models are completely compatible with one another!

    Hello,

i have a laptop dispaly which is broken, with the Serial-No. N184H6-L02.
What does H6 mean. I found another display that is much cheaper with the No.N184H3-L02. Would H3 fit to the laptop? What is the difference between H6 and H3?

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      Hello,
      N184H6-L02 is a 40 pin, while the other is a 30 pin.
We do recommend purchasing based off of your original.
