In the blog post of Jan. 7th, we have explained the LG Phillips-made LCD screen model numbers. In this post, we will explain the logic behind composing a model number for LCD screens made by AU Optronics (more commonly referred to as AUO).

Every LCD made by AUO will have the model number starting with “B”. The next 3 numbers refer to the LCD screen size (e.g. B133 means the LCD is 13.3″; B121 is for a 12.1″ LCD, and so on).

New and old AUO models are slightly different. The older models have 2 letters after the screen size, and the newer models have 3. Example of a model number: B156XW01 v.1 (old); B156HTN01.1 (new).

The next letter after the size denotes the screen resolution:

X = 1366×768
R = 1600×900
H = 1920×1080

The next letter after the resolution tells the LCD type – if it is TN or IPS:

T= TN (regular view)
A = IPS (wide view)

The next letter after the type tells if the LCD is made for a touchscreen laptop:

N = no touch screen
T = touchscreen

The digits following after the touchscreen parameter is for the revision of the LCD. They do not have a particular meaning, and they are assigned in a numerical order, as the LCD’s are being produced.

Next is HW number – sometimes important (LCDs may have different brackets alignment, different video connector and/or pins, special EDID, etc).

In most cases, it is best to order according to the LCD model number. If you are unsure what LCD screen you need to order, make sure to contact us prior to placing your order.

    To be true, I do not intend to purchase a LCD display, but you may answer a question about a B150XG01 V.7 with a B150XG01 V.2 built in device (with the LCD connector on it). I think V.2 is the decisive Spec as the LCD connector is on it.
    This display of a broken Notebook is planned to be reused by means of a HDMI-DVI-VGA-Audio converter. The suppliers of those converters for the B150XG01 offer different sets of converters referring to panel types as B, N, Q, W and so on.
    My questions
    1. What do the letters for the panel type stand for, and are there essential differences?
    2. How can I extract that panel specification from the specs printed on the device?
    Would be glad if you could answer my questions.

    My monitor is a touch screen au B140HAN03.0 but according to your explanation since mine has a N it should not be a touch screen but it is a screen . Lenovo Yoga 710 14IKB

    What do the letters in the last bracket mean? I’m trying to find a replacement controller for a screen but i can only find a (TJ)(C3) when the screen ends in (TJ)(C1). Will this work?

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      Thank you for contacting support, please provide the full screen model number. Sometimes the last 2 digits could mean a different version of mounting brackets for a screen, however we need the full screen model number to determine this.

    I have a B140RW02, what does the W mean in this?

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      For the older model styles, “2 letters” W denotes it is a TN display.

    there are AUO panels like B156HAK, or B156HTK.
    what does the ‘K’ stand for?

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      These would be for the embedded touch type of screen.

    i Currently have a B156XTN04.5 and i have a few questions:
    1) What does the 04.5 at the end mean?
    2) I would like to replace my current 768p TN panel with a compatible 1080p IPS panel, could you please recommend a new screen according to those specs? Also im not sure if i need a new eDP display cable as well as i cannot tell if my current one has 1 or 2 lanes

    My eDP display cable details are as follows:
    Nano CG510 EDP CABLE
    DC02001XL10 REV 0A
    Vendrcode MGE
    MGE10A59200908MP

      The numbers following XTN do not have any specific meaning other than to denote a production run. As screens will be continuously produced over a period of time, some cases to improve on out dated components. There are some circumstances where a model is slightly different in where it has included mounting brackets or different pin connector location. Therefore we recommend when looking for a replacement screen for your laptop you reference your full screen model as our listings are based on compatibility.

      For a replacement Full HD IPS screen, they can be found here https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/B156HAN04.0%20HW1A/

      Lenovo laptops will often be equipped with universal cables, allowing you to upgrade from HD to Full HD without problem. We do not have the specifications of the cable you have to determine if this one is universal, however some online searches have resulted in no specific resolution format, therefore it seems this would be the universal type. It is recommended you contact Lenovo directly to confirm if your cable will support Full HD.

        Alright, will do that. Thank you again for the screen link, this has been a HUGE help

    Just asking for eductaional purposes but why did you choose the 4.0 HW1A variant over other 4.x and HWxA variants?

    Hello, i got an acer laptop and saying b156htn01.1 which has a very bad display and i want to place it with a better display,I find out the b156han01.2 is an ips panel but not sure if it fits ok and a good choice.Can you recommend me a better one?

  12. Jay

    Hello, I am looking at an AUO G150XG03 V1.

    Are they typically sold with the digitizer glass panel in the front, or is that extra and only if indicated? I just want to make sure I’m getting what I need, as I cannot figure out how to interpret my the model number based on the above criteria.

    Thanks for any insight you can offer!

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      The model of screen is not manufactured with the touch digitizer included. Therefore if you require a replacement with touch you will need to search for the screen assembly replacement based on the model number of the device it came from.

    I have HP ENVY 15-k020uS my bfoken touch screen is B156HTN03.3, which replcement touch screen should i buy, Appreciated

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      If you have damaged front glass only, you need to replace the digitizer glass. The LCD model you posted only displays images, it does not have touch capabilities by itself, read more about touch screens here. The listings for your laptop model can be found here HP ENVY 15-k020uS. If any items are out-of-stock, click the notify me button and provide your e-mail, that way our website will e-mail you as soon as the item is back in-stock.

  17. Tony C.

    Hi,

    I have an Acer P643-V-9800 laptop with a AU Optronics B140XW03 v.1 H/W:0A F/W:1 screen.
    I can see that you are selling the same screen for 95.62$CAD glossy and 107.72$CAD matter version.

    I was hoping to buy a replacement screen at a lower price so I was wondering if I could buy any screen that matches size (14”), resolution (1377×768), backlight(LED) and connector(40 pins).

    I see for exemple that you offer an Acer TRAVELMATE P243-M-6481 screen that is 74.66$CAD with the same specs.
    Will this screen work with my laptop?

    Do you any other screen you can propose?

    Thanks in advance for your reply.

    Tony

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      Hello Tony,
      Our listings are based off of compatibility, so it would be best to purchase from the listing for your model.

  18. Adison

    Hello I would like to know the response time in ms of this screen: AU Optronics [Unknown Model: AUO70EC] 1366×768

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      Hello Adison,

      Unfortunately we are not able to confirm with this info, we would you to remove the screen and get the screen model to confirm that.

      Please remove your original screen, there will be a label on the back that has your original screen model. It will look similar to the following: B156xxxx, LTN173xxxx, N140xxxx, CLAA116xxxx, LP156xxx(XY)(XY), etc..

      Once you have located it, please provide it.

  19. Paul Edwards

    I have an AU Optronics B156HAK02.1 screen I need to replace (H/W:OA F/W:1 40 pin). What does the K stand for since it is not in the excellent description above?
    This is a touchscreen panel. Can it be replaced with a B156HAN panel to be non touchscreen?

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      If K is in the model of the screen it is generally going to be a touch LCD. The B156HAN would not be immediately interchangeable.
      We recommend buying the same compatibility as you had originally.

  20. Jake Andrew

    Hi. I have B156HAN04.4 screen.
    Is it ok to change it with B156HAN04.1?
    What’s the meaning of the number at the end?

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      Hello,

      These two models are compatible and you may order from either listing.

      The digits following are for the revision of the LCD. They do not have a particular meaning, and they are assigned in a numerical order, as the LCD’s are being produced.

    My LCD model B156XTKO1.O H/W:3. F/W:1
    Can I replace it with B156XTK01.0 H/W:3A F/W:1
    Thanks

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      Hello,

      It sounds like that is your exact model, it will be fine to purchase from that listing.

  22. Robert

    Hi, are the AU B156HAK02.1 h/w:3A panels compatible with AU B156HAK02.1 h/w:2A panels?
    I’m needing a replacement for a h/w:2A panel but the pricing on those are making it not viable

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      For these particular embedded touch screens I strongly recommend purchasing an exact match if possible. The different hardware revisions for these “B156HAK02.1” is often a unique compatibility, at least based off of the ones we currently have.

      I would recommend contacting us and providing some additional information, such as the laptop model so we may look into this further: https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/section/contact-us/

  23. flo schneider

    Hello,
    I have an AUO333C B140XTN03.3 30pin edp 1 Lane from 2013 which needs replacement..
    Ideally I would like to have a higher resolution, 400nits, IPS, matte, Good colourspace (16,7mo, SRGB or Better) one… preferably Full hd

    I read that dp 1.2 (rolled out 2009, so I guess my display supports it) can support Full HD on one Lane, but cannot find the edp protocol version of the original display in the data sheet or at panellook.. What I also do not grasp till now: which components must all speak the right edp protocol version ? Mainboard, Cable, inverter, Display? Also I have heard of people exchanging an 1 lanes cable with a 2 lanes one, is that even possible?
    Thanks

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      If you wish to use the higher resolution screen in the laptop you will first need to change the video cable in the laptop to a Full HD channel cable (we do not stock video cables, or have cable model info) capable of handling the higher resolution, the current video cable in the laptop will not support the higher resolution.

  24. Maria

    What would be a compatible screen to use for B156HAN08.4?

  25. Ali

    Hello,

    H/W: 0A , H/W: 4A what does it mean?

    1. LaptopScreen.com

      Hello,

      It means hardware. In general they are cross compatible, but in some cases they revision is unique. We recommend purchasing based off of your exact model.
